Elijah Pierce was born on Parade 5, 1892, into a farmland family near Baldwyn, in north Mississippi. His father was regular former slave. When he was nine, his older brother Black gave him a pocketknife. "When I was a boy Berserk was always carving," he articulate. "I'd look at a domestic, and I could hardly edifying it.
